My 1.5 yr. old daughter has just begun feeding herself, and after searching for forks that actually work, are BPA free, and won't hurt her if she jabs herself in the mouth or face, I can happily say that I've found the best toddler spoon/fork set! She can grip the chunky handles steadily and use the utensils better than any I've seen her try so far, and I don't have to worry about safety. Even the spoon is well designed: she actually gets a mouthful of food on it and eats effectively! (Other spoons were too small, or too deep, this is just right!) The look of accomplishment on her face is so rewarding!

These fork and spoon sets are great. My son is just starting to feed himself with a spoon and fork and this is the only fork that he can actually pick food up with and get to his mouth. The spoon is great too. Its not deep enough to be difficult to eat from but enough so that it will scoop food well. Plus the handles are fun and colorful too!

This silverware set is so easy for my 18-month-old grandson to use. He loves them -- and so do I!
...but I think the fork and spoon parts are a little bit too big. My son is a big boy, but he often hits the sides of his mouth while trying to feed himself due to the size of these. We have some plastic toddler spoons which are a better size for us.
Frustrating

Half the time my son used his hands as much as he'd use a cutlery set. More often than not they were were played with and just modeled what it was like to eat like a "real person." I know many parents are concerned about their child stabbing themselves in the face as their young toddlers are beginning to master using a fork, but this one only frustrated my son. He couldn't stab any of his food and could only scoop as much as a spoon could. The balls on the end and bumpy grips only frustrated him-which was so not worth the tantrums. I much preferred using the Gerber Kiddie cutlery set of 3 with spoon, fork, and knife. I held off on giving the knife until after 2 years of age, but even then, I never had a problem with him hurting himself. He did a great job with it and we still use the 3 set at almost the age of 3. However, this product held up well and never had any wear or color fade. I suppose you just have to know your child to chose the best product.

This set is simply amazing. I love to just look at the pieces! Looks far better than traditional sterling silver pieces without the maintenance. It's polished to a smooth luster which retains with every wash and continues to look like I just took it out of the box. It comes with a grey storage cloth pouch sectioned for each piece and a metal name plate attached to it so you can engrave the baby's details. This set makes an excellent gift. Look forward to purchasing again for other expecting mothers!
Oh, this is such a neat set! My mother in law ordered these for my daughter as "practical keepsakes". The quality is great, pop them in the dishwasher to clean, the weight is a perfect "heft", and the looped handles really are easy for baby to hold! Great baby shower gift----practical, unique and attractive!

I now own about 6-7 of these. Originally I had bought two and they've worked out so very well that I bought a bunch so that I'd have them on the ready all the time.
These are about 5-6 inches long and are just the right size for a kid's lunch. I pop mine in the dishwasher and they hold up beautifully. My daughter likes them because they're lightweight, offer both a spoon and fork, and because they're not plastic.
They may be a bit pricey, but for us they've been worth every penny and are pretty used every weekday in my daughter's school lunch.

I like this item for my 2 yr old. Which ever end is in her food she can use instead of shuffling around multiple items on her plate trying manage a fork and a spoon. Good for travel too.
Nuby's Baby Spoon & Fork set is a great addition to mealtime for your little one. Specially designed for children to grip, these utensils are fun and colorful as well as useful.
These are the best toddler spoons I have found, and I have tried several different kinds. Some are too shallow and they can't get anything on the spoon and some are too deep and they can't get everything out of the spoon, but these are just right!!
Trust me. They're great.
Perfect feeding angle

These spoons are my favorite. They are very soft and easy to hold and the rubber is grippy so it won't slip while feeding. The handle is contoured in such a way that is the perfect angle for feeding. Other spoons I've used you really have to tip them up to get the food to go into the mouth whereas these, you don't. They are super cheap and you can buy them at wal-mart under 'parents choice' brand.

When I first got these, I thought the fork would be worthless...a wooden fork? It's too thick right? Well, the wood/bamboo actually gripped the food better than a traditional fork. Great for a new eater! The spook is a great size, holds a little more than the typical baby spoon. These are easy to hold and have a great shape. Highly recommended to anyone who is looking to use products made of natural materials

These products are fabulous! We got a set of two forks and spoons and used them over the course of our two little ones early eating months. Now they've graduated to metal, but for the first year of feeding, these are wonderful! They did splinter after a couple of years, and then we tossed them into the compost.

The spoon of this set is perfect for little ones- not too much volume in the payload area, and a good shape. I haven't tried the fork, but it seems like it would be able to spear or pierce soft foods (cooked veggies like potato, pumpkin, etc) but I don't know about harder foods like a veggie with a membrane or meat. The handles are curved and seem to be a good shape for little hands, and don't seem flimsy. They are meant to be handwashed, so those who say they splinter may be treating them roughly- mine are ok after months.

This fork and spoon set used to be just great. 5 stars all the way. Unfortunately the company didn't have the guts to raise the price directly, so instead they've cut costs by making 'em much thinner and much thinner thereby increasing their profits-- 'cuz they charge the same amount! If I'd known I certainly wouldn't have bought 'em.
Introducing a new non-plastic alternative to traditional kid's utensils. These smooth, easy to handle organic bamboo utensils are perfectly sized for toddlers and preschoolers. Stronger than wood, the knife, fork and spoon are specially formed to fit a child's grasp, and are burnished to have a smooth, satiny feel. Finished with a food safe, natural oil. Each utensil is also carved with a dinosaur head shaped handle, just to make mealtime a little more fun. As a manufacturing material, bamboo is an environmentally friendly, and surprisingly versatile, yet infrequently used option. As one of the Earth's fastest growing plants, bamboo is highly renewable. Bamboo stands release 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than equivalent timber forests and require no replanting, pesticides or fertilizers to grow. Bamboo is also highly durable and strong--it's even harder than red oak and maple wood! Made from pesticide-free, organically grown bamboo with water-based, formaldehyde-free adhesives. All tools are food safe. Bambu has received the Co-Op America Seal of approval for its commitment towards Fair Trade business practices, helping to sustain both communities and the environment. My 15 month old mainly uses just the spoon right now, but all 3 pieces are well crafted and sturdy. I do not find the fork tines to be overly sharp, unlike another reviewer.
My daughter bangs on everything with the spoon and it goes through the dishwasher daily with no problems. A benefit I did not expect is that the texture of the wood helps keep food on the spoon, instead of slipping off halfway between the bowl and her mouth and landing in her lap. I'm very pleased with this set.
i bought these intended to use them early on. i love that they are made from organic bamboo, so i don't have to worry about chemical ingredients. although like others said the fork isn't sharp, i find that i like it better that way- it's safer. it easily stabs sweet potato chunks, peaches, bananas, etc... they are also great to keep a little one busy while you prepare their meal- dropping them, clinking them together can keep them occupied. would make a great gift along with some bibs and packets of food.

I gave this set 4 star instead of 5 because I haven't used the fork yet. I only use the spoon. Not sure if my son will use the fork anytime soon as he's still eating very soft foods and mostly he needs a spoon to eat them with.
The handle is very easy to grip. The width of the spoon is perfect for my 8 month old's mouth. He enjoys trying to hold to spoon himself and has been successful at getting most of the food into his mouth.
Something I really enjoy is that the spoon reacts if the food is too hot. It turns white. So if I've heated something up I stir it with the spoon to check it it's too hot.
I am going to order another set of these as I think they are very handy. The spoon right now and the fork later when my son starts to feed himself.
Good idea, but...

I was really excited about these utensils, but my daughter still had a hard time with these. The handles are great because they are big, but it is akward to scoop, and the fork can't "stab" things that arent really thick. It works good on pasta, but not on eggs, as the eggs crumble and fall apart when "stabbed"; even pasta tends to shread into a couple pieces if the bite isn't rushed to the toddler mouth right away...which what toddler learning to eat can move it that quickly?! Great item, but for older toddlers.
right-handed only
Reviewed by: Silea, Portland, OR Review Date: 2010-01-14
These turned out to be useless for us, because my son is left-handed. This means that the fork and spoon point the wrong way for him. Most babies are fairly ambidextrous, so it's not an issue for most parents, but if your kid shows a pronounced tendency for left-handedness, these utensils will only frustrate them.
Aside from that, though, these are still only mediocre. The handles are too thick for my 1-year-old son to grab, but the gap in the middle of the handle is too small for his fingers. Even as a toy, these aren't very good.
Also, the color change takes 30 seconds, which is a lifetime when your irate toddler is begging for food, and only kicks in at 105F, which is way, way too hot. Just stick your finger in the food to see if it's a good temperature. It's faster, easier, and more informative.

It says colors may vary and I was worried about what colors I would get because I'm so picky but I liked the colors that I got. The case for mine is white and the fork and spoon are green (like the picture). I think it's perfect for "on the go" in the diaper bag. It's small and when it gets dirty you can put the whole thing in the dishwasher. My sister used a ziploc baggie for traveling with silverware and the baggie would always have to changed because it got dirty with food or from the silverware falling on the floor.

I am very pleased with this set. I was pleasantly surprised at the sturdiness and durability; I expected them to be a bit flimsy considering the price and picture shown. Yes, the fork is not so great at stabbing, but it is difficult to find a toddler fork that is. The spoon is just right and the carrying case is compact and perfect to throw in the diaper bag. It is a little annoying to not be able to pick a color, I would have been miffed to get a pink set, but mine was green with a white case, pretty neutral.
